Black History Month Celebration

Hello all! Are you looking for a unique educational experience for February? Please join us at Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum for our Black History Month Celebration! As part of our Member Appreciation Month and Black History Month, we celebrate the contributions of African Americans to aviation and space with fun activities and historical figures. There will be reduced admission from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM if you bring a Golden Ticket, and there will be plenty to do for both children and adults alike.

Schoolwide Vision Screening

The Oregon Lions Foundation will be coming to our school on Tuesday January 30 to complete vison screenings on all KG-5th grade students.  If you would like your child(ren) to opt out, please notify the school  in writing prior to that date.

Winter Program at the Salem Public Library

This winter, we have two reading programs that we believe will be of special interest to your students and families. First, we have our Snuggle Up Reading Club in February, which encourages families to keep track of reading or listening to stories together for at least 15 minutes every day in February. They can then turn in their completed reading calendar in March to earn a free book for each participating child. Families are invited to register by January 31st either online at http://bit.ly/SPLSnuggleUp2019  or at the Salem Public Library Youth Services Ask Here Desk.

 The other program is a brand new STEAM-based opportunity called “March into Non-Fiction Reading Challenge”. Readers and listeners (ages 0 - 18) are invited to take the non-fiction reading challenge. They are encourage to read books from a variety of non-fiction categories in March, keep track on a Dewey log, and in April, turn in their completed reading log in exchange for a new non-fiction book to keep. Sign-ups for this challenge will begin mid-February online or at the Youth Services or Teen Ask Here Desks.


Band Concert

Dear Parents,


Our next band concert will be held on Tuesday, February 6th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Straub Middle School Gym.  Students will need to arrive by 6:30 p.m., and meet in the gym for warm up and tuning.  Dress for the concert is casual dress (no jeans, t-shirts, or tennis shoes). Straub Middle School is located at 1920 Wilmington Ave. N.W.  Brush College, Chapman Hill, Harritt, Kalapuya, and Myers will combine together for this exciting event; followed by the Straub Advanced Band.  The concert should be over by 7:45 p.m. at the latest.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
